Intro
Kyoto University, Seoul National University and Renmin University of China, with support from APFNet are implementing the project Ecosystem Services under Forest Transition.
Project locations are Luang Prabang province in PR Laos and Fujian province China.
The project goal is to enhance the provision of forest ecosystem services under the process of forest transition. Project teams will characterize recovery of forest ecosystem services (FES) during forest transition, quantify demand and actual benefits from FES and causally link forest rehabilitation  and forest and land use policies to FES provision.
Insights from field and policy studies will be used to develop knowledge models and policy decision making tools to enhance FES outcomes of forest landscape rehabilitation.

Project overview
The partners in this project have collaborated since 2010 exploring forest transition in Asian countries. Forest transition research informs about forest cover change and timber volume change, but provides little understanding how forest ecosystem services evolve when forests return after deforestation.
We will quantify how FES recover during forest transition, in two locations: Luang Prabang in Laos and Fujian province in China.
We will study how land use and forest rehabilitation policies influence these outcomes.
Findings will be used to improve understanding how forest ecosystem services can be enhanced during actions that result in forest transition.
